IPOB Permanently Cancels Monday Sit-at-Home Order in South East Nigeria

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, has officially ended the Monday sit-at-home order across the South East region, effective February 9, 2026. This decision, announced by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, aims to restore economic and social activities that were disrupted by the weekly sit-at-home protests initiated in August 2021.

The enforcement of the sit-at-home directive led to at least 776 violent incidents and 776 deaths in the region, impacting the economy significantly. Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo defied the sit-at-home order by ordering the reopening of the Onitsha main market, warning traders to comply with the directive or risk losing their businesses.

The move to end the sit-at-home order comes amidst concerns over the economic toll and security challenges faced in the region.
