Schumer Leads Democratic Effort to Block Trump's Fund

Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, stated his intention to derail President Donald Trump's proposed $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund. In a letter to his colleagues released on Monday, Schumer emphasized that Republicans would be forced to publicly defend their plan in a serious Senate vote.

Senate Democrats are preparing a coordinated effort to eliminate what they describe as a "slush fund." Schumer warned that Republicans are attempting to advance a spending package through budget reconciliation and that Democrats are ready to challenge this process. He asserted that there would be no compromises on the matter, stating that Republicans would have to vote on the fund.

Additionally, Senate Democrats Adam Schiff, Kelli, and Elissa Slotkin introduced legislation called the "Drain the Slush Fund Act," aimed at eliminating the fund and preventing taxpayer money from being used in settlements involving Trump. The Justice Department created the fund following settlements linked to Trump's lawsuit regarding alleged tax record leaks, which has already faced legal challenges.
