Bandits Attack Niger Communities, Causing Casualties

On 8th October, armed bandits invaded Kokani and Kigbera villages in Borgu Local Government, Niger State, leading to the deaths of scores of people. The gunmen, estimated to be over 30, attacked in the early hours, setting houses and shops ablaze, which forced villagers to flee.
Reports indicate that foodstuffs and animals were stolen during the raid. This incident follows a previous raid two months prior, where about 500 villagers were abducted and at least 50 were killed.
The Niger State Police Command, represented by Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that four members of the local vigilance group were injured during the attack. While no fatalities were officially confirmed, Abiodun stated that residents were compelled to seek safety in different locations.
Joint security teams were dispatched to restore order, and further assessments of the situation are ongoing.
