Tobilola Tonueyi Launches Heritage Confluence Collection

Tobilola Tonueyi, the Creative Director of Teeday Honts Couture, unveiled her debut collection, Heritage Confluence, in Scotland. This collection reimagines the iconic Scottish tartan through the traditional Yoruba Aso Oke weaving techniques.

Instead of merely combining visual elements, Tonueyi focused on the histories, symbolism, and craftsmanship of both textile traditions. The collection features garments such as relaxed trousers, tailored waistcoats, and coordinated separates, highlighting the handwoven textiles.

A standout piece is a tailored waistcoat that showcases the geometric precision of the tartan-inspired weave. The unveiling included an exhibition of woven fabric samples, demonstrating the extensive research and craftsmanship involved.

The event attracted representatives from OneRen, Paisley Museum, and Miss Africa Scotland, with Kemi Komolafe praising the authenticity of the cultural exchange represented in the collection. Tonueyi emphasized that Heritage Confluence was designed as a conversation between cultures, showcasing that cultural exchange does not necessitate compromise.
