SDP Calls for Real-Time Electronic Transmission of Election Results in Nigeria

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nigeria has called for the real-time electronic transmission of election results, emphasizing transparency and accountability in the electoral process. Araba Rufu Aiyenigba, the party's National Public Secretary, expressed concern over the Senate's reluctance to provide a clear legislative mandate for this reform.

The SDP highlighted the importance of modern technology, such as the biometric voter accreditation system (BVA), to enhance the credibility of elections and reduce human errors and manipulation. The party commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its positive approach towards electoral reforms but warned against any attempts by a small group within the Senate to hinder democratic progress.

SDP urged citizens and civil society organizations to defend democracy and prevent a repeat of the credibility crisis experienced during the 2023 elections.
