SDP Criticizes Nigerian Senate Over Opposition to Real-Time Election Result Transmission

The Social Democrat Party (SDP) has condemned the Nigerian Senate's resistance to real-time electronic transmission of election results, accusing the Senate leadership of undermining the legislative mandate. Rufu Aiyenigba, the SDP's National Public Secretary, expressed concerns in Abuja, stating that the Senate's actions go against the popular will of Nigerians as seen during nationwide public hearings on the Electoral Act repeal and reenactment bill of 2026.

The SDP advocates for a transparent and modernized electoral system, emphasizing the importance of real-time result transmission to prevent manipulation and enhance credibility. The party warns against self-serving interests within the Senate that could derail democratic reforms and calls for the removal of ambiguities surrounding result transmission in the new Electoral Act.
