Prof. Sadiq Gomb Elected New SDP National Chairman

Prof. Sadiq Gomb has been elected as the new national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the party's 2026 national convention held in Bauchi.

He was sworn in alongside members of the national working committee. Gomb emphasized the SDP's commitment to providing a qualified political platform for leadership in Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

He thanked party members for their confidence and pledged to uphold transparency and patriotism in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act. Usman Bugaj, the chairman of the national convention committee, criticized the current state of governance in Nigeria, highlighting issues such as insecurity, high petrol prices, poor infrastructure, unemployment, and widespread poverty.

He commended SDP members for their resilience despite the prevailing hardships. The newly elected national working committee includes Ugochukwu Uba as deputy national chairman (South) and Olu Agunloye as national secretary, among others.
