SDP Selects Adebayo as Presidential Candidate for 2027

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially adopted Adewale Adebayo as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections during a convention held in Bauchi State. The decision was made unanimously by party leaders and delegates, marking a significant step in the party's preparations for the upcoming elections.

Usman Bugaje, the party's chairman, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary of undermining opposition parties and creating a hostile political environment. He claimed that these institutions have become instruments in the hands of unscrupulous politicians aiming to weaken opposition and stifle political competition.

Bugaje drew parallels between the current political climate and the military era under General Sani Abacha, warning that history shows the dangers of suppressing dissent. Adebayo, a lawyer and businessman, previously ran for president in 2023, advocating for government reform and economic revival.

His emergence as the SDP's candidate signals the party's commitment to contesting the 2027 elections.
