SDP Welcomes 23 ADC Defectors in Anambra Ahead of Elections

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Anambra State, led by chairman Chinedu Ekwunife, is preparing to receive 23 aspirants defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This move follows a leadership crisis within the ADC, which has left its members uncertain about their prospects for the 2027 general elections.

Ekwunife noted that the SDP's recent state congress produced a new state executive committee through a consensus-driven process, indicating strong interest from ADC members seeking a stable platform. The formal reception of the defectors will occur under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the party's congress in Awka.

Ekwunife acknowledged the SDP's historically weak organizational structure but highlighted significant progress made in revitalizing the party and establishing grassroots structures across 326 wards in Anambra. This strategic move aims to position the SDP as a credible alternative in the state's political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
