Adebayo Unveils 11-Month Solar Power Plan for Nigeria

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 elections, announced a comprehensive solar power initiative during an interview on Arise Television's 'Prime Time' on September 8, 2026. He pledged to install between 11 and 15 kilowatts of solar power on every rooftop within 11 months of taking office.

Adebayo's plan includes establishing solar panel manufacturing factories in Nigeria and training locals to operate and maintain them, in partnership with countries such as China, Turkey, and India. He emphasized that clustering solar installations could potentially generate up to 32,000 megawatts of electricity, with the national grid serving only as a backup.

Adebayo also addressed Nigeria's economic challenges, including oil theft, and proposed that government involvement in strategic sectors could enhance job creation. He expressed confidence that a solar-led approach, supported by local manufacturing and skills training, would provide a more stable electricity solution than reliance on the national grid.
