Kano Governor Yusuf Advocates for Power Rotation in Nigeria

On September 28, 2026, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf called for the continued rotation of presidential power between Nigeria's northern and southern regions. This statement was made during an event at the Government House in Kano, where he unveiled 50 vehicles donated by Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo to support the APC campaign for the 2027 general elections.

Governor Yusuf argued that each region should be allowed to produce a president for two consecutive terms, which he believes would provide adequate time for significant policy implementation. He urged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second term, asserting that this would enable the South to complete its two-term cycle before power returns to the North in 2031.
