SGF Akume Calls for Community Involvement in Security

At the South East Peace and Stability Summit held in Owerri, Sen George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, emphasized that the security of lives and property in Nigeria is not solely the responsibility of security agencies. He highlighted the need for active participation from communities, traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

Akume, represented by Mrs Olisa Stella Marries from the Political and Economic Affairs Office of the SGF, stated that sustainable peace can only be achieved through collective action and inclusive dialogue. He expressed commitment to facilitating inter-agency collaboration for national peace and security.

Akume also praised the summit's theme, “Building Sustainable Peace for a Prosperous Future,” as timely for Nigeria's socio-economic development. Ikechukwu Nwabueze, Executive Director of the Orlu Progressive Initiative, advocated for the creation of the South East Peace Commission to enhance conflict prevention and peacebuilding in the region.
