Odegbami Challenges NFF Election Process for Reform

Segun Odegbami, a notable figure in Nigerian football, has initiated a discussion on Eagle7 Sports Radio 103.7 FM regarding the electoral process of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). He contends that despite recent amendments to the NFF electoral framework, the system remains biased towards established political entities, making it difficult for genuine outsiders to compete.

Odegbami intends to pursue legal action in Nigerian civil courts to seek reforms in the administration of Nigerian football. He emphasizes the historical context of NFF elections, highlighting the significant influence of State Football Associations in determining leadership, which has been a concern since at least 2010.

The NFF Congress, prior to amendments, consisted of 44 voting members, with the 36 State Football Associations and the Federal Capital Territory holding substantial power. The NFF has made changes to its statutes and electoral framework, with amendments approved at an Extraordinary General Assembly in Yenagoa on March 23, 2026, attended by FIFA and CAF representatives.
