Federal Universities to Receive N4b for Engineering Education

The Nigerian Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced on Monday in Abuja that selected federal universities will each receive N4 billion to enhance their engineering and technology education. This funding is part of a high-impact intervention project aimed at upgrading laboratories, workshops, and research facilities across twelve federal universities and six conventional universities, representing the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

The initiative is designed to rehabilitate existing engineering workshops, build new facilities where none exist, and upgrade equipment in institutions that already have engineering technology programs. The funding will be allocated in tranches, with the first batch aimed at closing existing gaps that weaken the employability status of graduates.

The project will be monitored by a committee chaired by Ali Rabiu of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, ensuring compliance with standards and timelines. The initiative underscores the importance of strong science, engineering, and technology education for Nigeria's industrial and economic growth.
