Nigeria Allocates N4bn Each to 12 Federal Universities

The Nigerian government has announced an allocation of N4 billion each to 12 federal universities to enhance engineering and technology education. Dr.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, made this announcement during the inauguration of a monitoring and evaluation committee for the TETFund high-impact intervention project in Abuja. The funding will be used to rehabilitate existing engineering workshops, build new facilities, and upgrade equipment at the beneficiary institutions, which include Federal University of Technology, Minna; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; and others.

The initiative aims to close the existing gaps in engineering education that weaken the employability of graduates. Ali Rabiu, the chair of the committee and president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, emphasized that while funding is crucial, the project's success will depend on strict adherence to standards and transparency.

The first tranche of funds will be released to the institutions, which are expected to consult with contractors to ensure effective implementation.
