Dafinone Supports Itakpe Rail Line Extension to Abuja

Sen. Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District on the platform of the Progressive Congress (APC), welcomed the 2026 Federal Budget provision aimed at modernizing the rail corridor and extending the Itakpe rail line to Abuja.

In a statement issued on a Saturday, he linked the development to legislative oversight efforts to improve Nigeria's rail infrastructure, particularly the Ujevwu-Itakpe corridor. Dafinone recalled conducting a spot assessment of the Ujevwu-Itakpe train service on July 7, 2025, where he identified operational challenges.

He raised a motion on November 4, 2025, in the Senate, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the state of rail infrastructure and the urgent rehabilitation of vandalized sections. The budget includes provisions for installing electrification and water supply infrastructure, as well as protective fencing along the railway corridor.

Dafinone described the extension as a strategic link that would facilitate long-distance travel, boost commerce, and accelerate economic development across multiple regions.
