Why state creation isn’t possible at the moment – Senate spokesman

Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, clarified that state creation is not currently feasible due to the constitutional process involved. The Senate has received 61 proposals for new states across the six geopolitical zones, but Adaramodu emphasized that the creation of states requires a constitutional review process that includes input from Nigerians and stakeholders.

The proposals are being reviewed by a committee led by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, which will assess and filter the requests before presenting a report to the Senate. Adaramodu highlighted the importance of demographic, geographic, and historical data in the decision-making process, noting that unanimous support from the requesting states is necessary.

The final decision on state creation will be made after a public hearing when the National Assembly resumes.
