Senate Confirms Darma as Minister for Housing Sector

The Nigerian Senate confirmed Darma as Minister during a screening session on Thursday, as part of the ongoing efforts by the federal government to address Nigeria's housing deficit. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded Darma's nomination to the Senate, which was presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During the screening, Darma assured lawmakers of his commitment to work closely with the National Assembly to tackle housing challenges. He noted that approximately 100 million Nigerians are affected by inadequate housing and emphasized the need for policies targeting low and middle-income earners.

Darma highlighted the importance of strengthening government accountability within the housing sector and acknowledged the role of public institutions and private development in addressing these issues. He pledged to enhance the efficiency of the ministry and draw on his experience as a former executive secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.

The confirmation comes amid ongoing efforts to restore Abuja's master plan and improve urban development in the Federal Capital Territory.
