Senate Expands Safe Schools Initiative Investigation

The Nigerian Senate has extended the lifespan of its ad hoc committee investigating the Safe Schools Initiative by three weeks, broadening its scope to include the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This decision, led by committee chairman Orji Uzor Kalu, follows a motion to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the implementation of educational funds and social intervention programs linked to student safety and welfare across the country.

The committee aims to evaluate financial flows and operational challenges affecting the Safe Schools Initiative, which has been under scrutiny due to concerns over the safety of educational institutions. The Senate's investigation gained urgency following the abduction of 25 female students in Kebbi State, reigniting fears for student safety.

The committee is expected to submit its findings within three weeks, addressing critical aspects of the investigation that remain incomplete.
