Bamidele Calls for New Anti-Terror Strategy in Nigeria

Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Majority Leader, has urged for a recalibration of strategies to tackle terrorism in Nigeria, particularly following recent bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State. In his Eid al-Fitr message, he highlighted the importance of peace and coexistence during this holy month.

Bamidele stressed that kinetic military operations alone cannot guarantee national peace and stability. He called on political, religious, and socio-cultural leaders to address the root causes of violent extremism, advocating for investment in human capital development, education, healthcare, and community safety nets.

He emphasized the need for dialogue to resolve inter-ethnic conflicts rather than resorting to armed struggles. Bamidele also mentioned the National Assembly's commitment to reviewing the 1999 constitution to enhance the powers of subnational governments in securing their territories.

He reaffirmed the Assembly's dedication to tightening laws to support the fight against violent extremism while wishing Nigerians a warm Eid al-Fitr celebration.
