Senate Orders Military Audit Amid Rising Terror Attacks

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate mandated a comprehensive military audit and a nationwide manhunt in response to recent terror attacks in Borno and Benue states, which have resulted in the deaths of both soldiers and civilians. The Senate directed the Chief of Defence Staff to conduct a full operational logistics review of recent assaults, particularly in Monguno and Benisheikh, to address gaps in equipment readiness and adherence to rules of engagement.

The Senate observed a minute of silence for the fallen troops and condemned the attacks, which threaten national security and undermine the gains made in counter-insurgency efforts. Senator Mohan Tahir Monguno highlighted the evolving tactics of insurgents, while Senator Abba Moro described the attacks as brutal and indicative of a worsening security situation.

The Senate called for the deployment of additional troops and police personnel to affected areas and urged the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare of frontline personnel. Additionally, they advocated for long-term measures to address recurring conflicts, including land use reforms.
