Senate Orders Investigation into Plateau Central Killings

Following a motion sponsored by Senator Barau Jibrin, the Nigerian Senate has directed an immediate investigation into the killings that occurred in the Angwan Rukuba district of Plateau Central, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 individuals. The Senate emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian assistance for the displaced residents and mandated the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to provide food, medical supplies, and relief materials.

In a session marked by a minute of silence to honor the victims, the Senate also called for the establishment of military bases in affected communities to enhance security. Additionally, lawmakers urged relevant government agencies to provide immediate assistance to prevent future attacks and proposed increasing the recruitment of police and security personnel to strengthen manpower in the region.

A high-powered delegation was also suggested to assess the situation firsthand and express sympathy for the victims.
