Senate Orders Military Audit After Borno Attacks

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate directed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to conduct a thorough operational audit following recent attacks on military formations in Borno State, particularly in Monguno and Benisheikh. The Senate passed a resolution mandating a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding these assaults, assessing equipment adequacy, and adherence to engagement rules.

Senator Tahir Monguno, representing Borno North, raised the motion, highlighting the urgent need to curb attacks by Boko Haram insurgents, which have resulted in the deaths of several military personnel, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimoh, Colonel Moham Isya, Captain M Esmat, and Lieutenant Kelvin Festu, along with 13 soldiers. The Senate emphasized the importance of investigating allegations of civilian harm during military operations to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
