Senate Queries PenCom Over Recruitment Imbalances and Irregularities

The Senate committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs has queried the National Pension Commission (PenCom) over recruitment irregularities and regional disparities. During a public hearing in Abuja, the committee chair, Senator Allwel Onyesoh, raised concerns about the imbalanced staff distribution across different regions and local government areas.

PenCom officials, including Director-General Omolola Oworonran, admitted to disparities in staff representation, with some areas being overrepresented while others are underrepresented. The committee emphasized the need for future recruitment to focus on equitable distribution across local government areas.

Criticisms were also directed at certain federal institutions for undermining recruitment transparency and breaching federal character guidelines.
