Senator Ngwu Advocates for Completion of Ivo, Mgbowo Dams

Senator Ngwu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force, has urged for the completion of the Ivo and Mgbowo dams in Enugu State. He stated that completing these dams would significantly enhance access to potable water, improve agricultural irrigation, create employment opportunities, and stimulate socio-economic growth across the region.

Ngwu expressed his concern that despite appeals for the completion of these critical projects, they appear to be systematically abandoned. The Ivo dam project was awarded by the Federal Government in 2012 as a multi-purpose dam intended for irrigation, water supply, fisheries, and electricity generation, enabling local communities to engage in intensive agriculture and food processing.

However, the project has suffered from a lack of budgetary allocations since 2014. Ngwu noted that the Mgbowo dam has similarly faced funding challenges, with the South East zone receiving no budgetary allocations for such projects, despite expectations for funding in the 2026 budget proposal.
