Senator Lamido to Leave APC Over Banditry Crisis

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has announced his intention to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the deteriorating security situation in his constituency. In an interview with journalists in Sokoto on Friday, Lamido expressed concern over persistent bandit attacks that have ravaged several villages, displacing residents and stripping them of their livelihoods.

He criticized the government's inadequate response to the crisis, stating that the suffering of the people cannot continue to go untold. Lamido emphasized that his decision is driven by the need to align with the concerns of his constituents rather than personal political interests.

He has made multiple efforts to attract federal intervention but noted that these have not yielded meaningful results. Following consultations with political associates and community leaders, a consensus was reached to exit the APC and explore other political platforms, prioritizing security and grassroots development.

Lamido did not disclose his next political destination but mentioned that a close ally recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
