Senegal Announces Bid to Host 2032 AFCON Tournament

Senegal has declared its intent to bid for the opportunity to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a significant move in the country's football aspirations. This announcement was made on Monday by Khadi Diagne, the Minister of Youth and Culture, during a parliamentary session.

Senegal aims to stage Africa's premier football tournament for the first time in four decades, having last hosted the competition in 1992. The country has been enhancing its reputation in African football, particularly following the success of its senior national team, which won the AFCON title in 2021 in Cameroon.

Senegal is investing heavily in infrastructure to prepare for major international events, including the construction of the modern Abdoulay Wade Stadium in Diamniadio. This bid will place Senegal among a growing list of African nations seeking to host prestigious continental championships organized by the Confederation of African Football.
