Senegal Demands CAF Investigation Amid AFCON Controversy

The Senegalese government has demanded an independent investigation into the activities of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) amid the controversy surrounding the awarding of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco. This follows Senegal's defeat to Morocco in the semifinals on January 17, where Senegal's players walked off the pitch in protest against a penalty decision during stoppage time.

The match ended with Morocco winning 1-0, but following an appeal from the Moroccan FA, CAF ruled the result in Morocco's favor with a 3-0 record. The Senegalese Football Federation, represented by Secretary General Abdoulay Seydou Sow, confirmed that several players, including Idrissa Guey, refused to accept the verdict.

The situation has raised concerns about potential political interference in football, with former CAF disciplinary chief Raymond Hack warning that the outcome could exacerbate perceptions of such interference. The Moroccan FA president, Fouzi Lekjaa, also serves as CAF's first vice president.
