Senegal Demands Probe into AFCON 2025 Title Decision

The Senegalese government is seeking an independent international investigation into the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title awarded to Morocco. This controversy arose from a match on January 18, where Senegalese players walked off the pitch in Rabat during the final, protesting a penalty awarded to Morocco in stoppage time.

Although Senegal's captain, Sadio Mane, coaxed the team back onto the pitch, Morocco ultimately won 1-0 after scoring in extra time. The Senegalese government, represented by spokeswoman Mari Rose Khadi Fatou Fay, condemned the decision as unjust and called for a review of the match's officiating, which they claim undermines CAF's credibility.

Senegal plans to pursue legal avenues, including an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, to restore the integrity of the sport and the match result. The Senegalese Football Federation also condemned the decision, labeling it unprecedented and damaging to African football's reputation.
