SERAP Urges Tinubu to Investigate N6.79bn Police Fund Misuse

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to initiate a thorough investigation into allegations that over N6.79 billion in public funds was misappropriated or remains unaccounted for within the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs. SERAP's request, outlined in a letter dated August 1, 2026, and signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, urges Tinubu to direct Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, and relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate these allegations as reported by the Auditor-General of the Federation on September 9, 2025.

SERAP demands that those responsible be prosecuted and that all missing public funds, firearms, and ammunition be recovered. The organization warns that the alleged diversion of funds and missing firearms could exacerbate insecurity in Nigeria.

SERAP has given the Federal Government seven days to respond before considering legal action.
