Kuti's exit was reportedly triggered by a comment from the event's MC, who compared contemporary Afrobeats artists to Kuti's late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

As he left, Kuti stated he was in the wrong place, indicating his displeasure with the comparison. He later described the atmosphere at the wedding as chaotic, noting that many guests left hurriedly, which he attributed to a broader security concern involving Agberos, street touts in Lagos.
