Shallipopi Halts Public Comments Amid Legal Dispute

On September 1, 2023, Nigerian singer Shallipopi announced his decision to step back from public commentary concerning his ongoing legal dispute with his former manager, Damilola Akinwunmi, known as Dapper, who is the CEO of Dapper Music. In a statement released on August 31, Shallipopi revealed that his legal team and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) advised him to refrain from discussing the matter publicly to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

He acknowledged that his previous public comments could impact the legal proceedings and stated that all claims against Akinwunmi must be thoroughly investigated. Shallipopi reiterated his commitment to his allegations, which include accusations of Dapper forging his signature on a 10-year distribution agreement and misappropriating funds related to his music catalogue.

He also claimed that royalties from 46 songs remain unpaid. Shallipopi emphasized the need for the relevant authorities to determine the facts of the case.
