Governor Dapo Abiodun announced on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Governor's Office in Abeokuta that seven persons had been rescued from kidnappers in Ogun State. The group comprised five students attending Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Sapaade along with two additional individuals.

Taken captive from a private hostel in Ipara-Remo starting July 29, they regained freedom after spending eight days under their abductors' control through a coordinated security response. The rescue effort engaged numerous agencies in joint action: the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and Civil Defence Force all participated.

Ground-based personnel combined with aerial surveillance capabilities were deployed to reach and liberate the captives from the Alamala community vicinity, situated off Ayetoro Road Roundabout in Abeokuta. During the operation, law enforcement apprehended five individuals suspected of involvement in the abduction.

At the announcement ceremony, Governor Abiodun delivered stern warnings to criminal enterprises within the state's borders. He made clear that Ogun would reject any role as a sanctuary for those engaged in abduction or other unlawful activities, vowing that perpetrators would face justice through prosecution.

He further recognized the security forces' swift mobilization and effective teamwork in accomplishing the extraction mission. No payment changed hands to secure the victims' freedom, according to available reports.

This intervention represents another recent security action addressing kidnapping threats that have challenged state authorities in preceding months. All seven freed persons emerged alive from captivity, though their health status remained undisclosed by official sources.

The five detained suspects are being held for further inquiry as investigations proceed into the abduction scheme.
