Ogun Governor Abiodun Rescues Seven Kidnapped Students

On August 6, 2026, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed the successful rescue of seven students kidnapped from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapaade. During a briefing at the governor’s office in Abeokuta, Abiodun stated that the state would not tolerate criminal activities, particularly kidnapping.

He praised the coordinated efforts of various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, Armed Forces, Department of State Security Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Security Network, and local vigilantes, which were mobilized for an intensive search and rescue operation. Abiodun noted that he requested aerial support from Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, who promptly approved the deployment of a police helicopter.

The governor assured the public that all rescued victims were alive and reiterated that there would be no safe haven for criminals in Ogun State, with ongoing operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates and prosecuting arrested suspects.
