Ogun Governor Abiodun Vows to Crackdown on Kidnappers

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced a decisive crackdown on kidnappers after the successful rescue of seven students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who had been abducted earlier that week. Speaking at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, Abiodun emphasized that kidnappers would have no refuge in Ogun State.

The rescue operation involved a coordinated effort by the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters. One student sustained a gunshot injury but has since been stabilized.

The operation was bolstered by the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, approved by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu. Abiodun reiterated the state's commitment to combating criminality and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing security through investments in the Armed Forces and other agencies.
