Sevilla Coach Matias Almeyda Banned for Seven Matches

Matias Almeyda, the 52-year-old coach of Sevilla FC, has been handed a seven-match ban by the Spanish Football Federation's disciplinary committee after a clash with a referee during a La Liga match against Alavés. Almeyda was sent off for protesting a decision and subsequently marched onto the pitch at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium to remonstrate with the officials.

The disciplinary committee issued a two-game suspension for his protest, an additional three games for showing contempt towards the officiating, and a further game for unsporting conduct. Sevilla currently sits 13th in La Liga, just two points above the relegation zone, with 14 matches remaining in the season.

Almeyda's suspension will significantly impact the team's performance as they strive to avoid relegation.
