Sevilla FC's Matías Almeyda Receives Seven-Game Ban

Matías Almeyda, the head coach of Sevilla FC, has been suspended for seven matches after receiving a red card during a La Liga draw against Deportivo Alavés. The disciplinary committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed the punishment on Wednesday.

Almeyda, aged 52, was dismissed for protesting a decision during the match, but the situation escalated when he entered the pitch to continue his protests. The sanction includes a two-match ban for failing to leave the technical area after being sent off, three matches for unsporting conduct related to his actions following the red card, and an additional two matches for confronting the match officials.

This suspension represents a significant blow to Sevilla, who currently sit 13th in La Liga, just two points above the relegation zone, with 14 fixtures remaining. Sevilla has already moved to challenge the ruling, submitting video evidence they believe contradicts the referee's report, and will appeal the decision.
