Nigeria Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Serbia

On Tuesday, during a courtesy visit in Abuja, Georg Akum, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, reaffirmed the Nigerian government's commitment to enhancing its longstanding diplomatic and economic relations with the Republic of Serbia. Akum described the relationship as cordial, built on mutual respect and shared interests over decades of diplomatic cooperation.

He noted that Nigeria and Serbia have maintained diplomatic relations since Nigeria's independence in 1960, when Serbia was part of the former Yugoslavia. The Serbian Ambassador, Jugoslav Vukadinović, emphasized Serbia's historical ties with Nigeria and expressed readiness to support Nigeria as a key partner in Africa.

He highlighted the contributions of Serbian companies to Nigeria's development, citing several infrastructure projects, including the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex and various irrigation and electrification projects. Vukadinović also indicated Serbia's eagerness to deepen economic ties and facilitate new investment opportunities in Nigeria, positioning Serbia as a gateway for Nigerian businesses to access markets in Southeastern Europe.
