Nigeria and Serbia Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties

On July 21, 2026, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) of Nigeria, received His Excellency Petar Vulic, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Nigeria, during a courtesy visit in Abuja. Senator Akume reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Serbia.

He described the relationship as one built on mutual respect and decades of cooperation. Ambassador Vulic characterized the ties as historic, noting that Serbia has maintained cordial relations with Nigeria since its independence in 1960.

He emphasized Serbia's support for Nigeria and its intention to enhance economic cooperation, citing significant contributions from Serbian companies to Nigeria's development, including landmark projects like the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex and the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. Vulic expressed Serbia's eagerness to facilitate the return of Serbian companies to Nigeria and to serve as a strategic gateway for Nigerian businesses in Southeastern Europe.
