Akume Urges ACPN to Collaborate with NAFDAC on Fake Drugs

On July 23, 2026, in Abuja, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called on the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) to enhance collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to address the issue of fake and substandard drugs in Nigeria. Akume praised the ACPN for its dedication to improving pharmacy practice and healthcare delivery, recognizing community pharmacists as vital to public health.

He highlighted the dangers posed by counterfeit medicines and stressed the need for collective action among government bodies, professional organizations, and the public. Drawing from discussions with a Ugandan delegation, he encouraged Nigerian pharmacists to engage in knowledge-sharing to bolster local pharmaceutical production.

Akume reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to healthcare improvements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and assured support for initiatives promoting quality healthcare and protection against counterfeit drugs. He also noted the significance of the ACPN's upcoming conference for professional engagement and policy dialogue.
