SGF Calls for Action Against Counterfeit Medicines in Nigeria

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called for enhanced collaboration between the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to eliminate counterfeit and substandard medicines from Nigeria's pharmaceutical supply chain. This appeal was made during a courtesy visit from ACPN leadership, including National Chairman Pharm.

Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, in Abuja. Akume accepted the invitation to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the ACPN's 45th Annual International Scientific Conference, scheduled at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.

He emphasized the crucial role of community pharmacists in identifying counterfeit medicines and highlighted the need for collaboration among various stakeholders in the healthcare sector. Akume also noted NAFDAC's intensified efforts against illegal drug markets and urged pharmacists to support local pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The ACPN National Chairman expressed gratitude for Akume's support in the fight against counterfeit medicines.
