Low Voter Turnout in Abuja and Kano Elections

Shehu Sani highlighted a significant lack of interest in voting among Abuja residents during the area council elections, which took place on a Saturday. He noted that many residents were waiting for movement restrictions to be lifted before engaging in normal business activities, which contributed to the low voter turnout.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, lamented the turnout at polling units in Karshi, where he encountered few voters and electoral officials. Dr.

Mose Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), attributed the low turnout to movement restrictions. In Kano State, a similar trend was observed during bye-elections for two seats in the Kano State House of Assembly, where only a few voters participated despite the presence of security personnel, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The elections were conducted across 1,014 polling units in 24 registration areas following the death of Aminu Sa in the Ungogo constituency.
