Shekarau leads northern APC push to triple Tinubu votes in 2027

Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Kano State, is directing efforts to build grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu across northern Nigeria ahead of 2027. Operating under Arewa for Asiwaju, Shekarau led a delegation of prominent northern political leaders to meet APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda on Tuesday.

The gathering took place at the APC's national secretariat in Abuja, where participants discussed voter mobilization strategies spanning the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory. Simon Lalong, former Plateau State Governor, serves as deputy board of trustees chair for the group.

The delegation committed to raising Tinubu's electoral performance in the region relative to 2023 results. Members stressed that northern Nigeria possesses the nation's largest voting bloc and vowed to implement comprehensive approaches targeting voter participation while combating disengagement.

These efforts, the group indicated, aim to reinforce popular support for the president throughout the region. Yilwatda responded positively to the mobilization push, drawing attention to accomplishments he credits to Tinubu's tenure in the North.

The APC chairman referenced infrastructure development, gas sector advancement, and student loan initiatives as demonstrating the administration's dedication to the region. He also praised Arewa for Asiwaju's inclusive structure and its approach to engaging voters at the grassroots.

The session represents part of broader APC strategy to strengthen support in the North before 2027. Both Shekarau and Lalong told party officials that regional voters could back Tinubu's return to power, pushing back against claims of regional neglect under his current term.

This visit joins a succession of coordination sessions between party officials and allied organizations working to boost electoral prospects.
