Shell Nigeria Begins Maintenance on Bonga Vessel to Ensure 15-Year Operations

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has commenced turnaround maintenance activities on the Bonga floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel located approximately 120 km offshore in water depths exceeding 1,000 meters. The maintenance program aims to ensure the FPSO's safe and efficient operation for the next 15 years, enhancing its overall resilience and reducing unplanned downtime.

The FPSO has a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. This maintenance is crucial for supporting Nigeria's energy security and revenue objectives.

SNEPCo's Managing Director, Ronald Adam, highlighted that the last maintenance activity on the FPSO took place from October 2022 to February 2023, resulting in the production of the FPSO's 1 billionth barrel of oil since its operations began in 2005. The current maintenance is essential to prepare the facility for increased operational demands associated with new developments in the oil and gas sector.
