Shettima demands results from South-West Development Commission

Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the South-West Development Commission to measure success through concrete achievements instead of administrative activity. During a courtesy visit by the commission's leadership at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Shettima told the delegation that outcomes such as road infrastructure, employment generation, business support, and community improvements should form the basis of evaluation.

The Vice President outlined that regional development bodies were established to identify and leverage the distinct advantages and opportunities available across Nigeria's geo-political zones. He noted that President Bola Tinubu's creation of these commissions reflected strategic foresight aimed at advancing national prosperity.

However, Shettima stressed that simply creating these institutions was insufficient without proper execution. According to Shettima, the commissions must operate on three principles: innovation, effective collaboration, and integrity.

He linked this framework to the administration's broader Renewed Hope Agenda, characterizing it as an effort to convert policy commitments into practical improvements for ordinary Nigerians. The Vice President indicated that working relationships with state governments and private sector actors would be essential to achieving regional development targets.

The South-West Development Commission delegation was led by board chairman Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi. The commission represents one of several newly constituted regional development bodies established under the current administration's governance structure.
