Shettima Calls for Accountability in Nigeria's $500M Agriculture Program

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in his capacity as Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU), demanded stronger accountability for various food-systems initiatives, including the $500 million Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Value-Chains for Growth programme (AGROW). This call was made during the 7th meeting of the Committee held on Friday at the State House in Abuja, which included governors, federal ministers, private-sector representatives, and development partners.

The meeting aimed to review Nigeria’s food-systems outlook and enhance coordination in priority areas. Shettima stressed the importance of ensuring that resources lead to tangible outcomes for farmers and households.

He urged coordinated action among Federal and State Governments, the private sector, and relevant institutions to improve food production and access. Discussions also focused on supporting farmers, improving food movement, and addressing distribution factors affecting food costs.

The Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, highlighted the need for alignment between domestic production and trade policy.
