Shettima Urges Local Governments to Boost Nutrition 774

On Friday in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima charged local government chairmen to actively implement the Nutrition 774 initiative aimed at improving nutrition outcomes across Nigeria. During a courtesy visit to the National Executive Committee of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Shettima emphasized that local governments should become central to planning and coordinating nutrition initiatives.

He highlighted the need for every council to develop functional structures capable of delivering measurable improvements in community nutrition. Shettima noted that while state governments have made commendable contributions, the absence of a coherent nutrition agenda at the local government level has created significant gaps.

He urged ALGON to drive the process of determining how each council can effectively contribute to improving nutrition. Shettima also acknowledged ALGON's commitment to supporting the initiative and stressed the importance of addressing insecurity, poverty, and youth restiveness as critical factors for national development.
