Shettima Advocates Education Reform at AUN Commencement

During the 17th commencement ceremony of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, Vice President Kashim Shettima commended the university's role in educating 12 young women from Chibok, referring to their graduation as a significant milestone in restoring hope after the abduction incident a decade ago. Shettima, who addressed the graduates on behalf of the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, emphasized the importance of education as a long-term solution to extremism.

He outlined the educational agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration, which aims to enhance learning outcomes, expand equitable access, and build human capital. Shettima called for a formal scaling of AUN's industry partnership model to create a sustainable pipeline for technology and fintech firms, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with industry needs.

He also acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerian universities and the need for collaboration with the private sector to address skill gaps in the economy.
