Nigeria to Lead Africa in AI Development Initiatives

On a recent occasion in Lagos, Nigeria's Vice President Kashim Shettima affirmed the nation's preparedness to lead Africa in deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to unlock new pathways for prosperity. He highlighted that AI is a transformative technology that can augment human intelligence and expand possibilities.

Shettima, who spoke during the official launch of the AI University Innovation Pod at the University of Lagos, explained that Nigeria will not be passive in the unfolding AI era. He emphasized the need for a digital foundation that allows innovation in governance and enterprise to create solutions tailored to the country's unique challenges, including agriculture, health, education, and finance.

The initiative aims to ensure that Nigeria's youth are actively engaged in shaping the future through knowledge and innovation. Shettima noted the importance of partnerships, including with the UNDP and TETFund, to build a sustainable and scalable innovation ecosystem.

The UNIPOD system is designed to connect talent with opportunities, positioning Nigeria as a significant player in the global economy.
