Mugabe's Son Pleads Guilty to Gun Charges in South Africa

Bellarmin Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe, pleaded guilty on Friday to illegally pointing a gun in South Africa. This incident occurred in Johannesburg's upscale Hyde Park district.

Chatunga Mugabe, aged 29, was placed in police custody alongside his cousin, Tobia Mugabe Matonhodz, who is 32 years old and pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges stemming from the same incident. The two were involved in a separate incident where Matonhodz admitted to contravening immigration and firearm laws.

Initially, a plea agreement was in discussion but collapsed at the last minute. Chatunga Mugabe's counsel, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, dismissed claims that Matonhodz was taking the fall for him.

The firearm used in the incident was not recovered, and both individuals were arrested on February 19. The case has been adjourned until April 24.
